| Duane A. Lavely has been a resident of Garden Valley and more recently Crouch, Idaho for three years. He left a position as a certified paralegal in charge of civil and criminal appeals cases for the trial firm of Carroll and Becker, Attorneys at Law and a position of instructor of "Interview and Investigation" in an associate degree program at the Center for Advanced Legal Studies both in Houston, Texas. As a sixth generation Texan, Duane has seen Houston grow from a small but dynamic oil city to an international metropolis. From gathering eggs on his Grandfather's chicken ranch and going barefoot to elementary school by horseback, bicycle, or motor scooter to attending one of Houston's three universities and watching the development ofone ofthe world's best medical centers. From a heritage that includes immlgrating to the Mexican state of Tejas by wagon train to generations of ancestors defending their beliefs through wars of independence, world wars, and military conllicts, Duane Lavely decided to leave Texas and chose the State of Idaho and Boise County. Duane Lavely is a board certified legal assistant with an Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies from an American Bar Association accredited institution. His ten years ofexperience in the legal profession has been primarily in civil and criminal litigation and appellate law. Civil Litigation, Business & Corporate Law, Administrative Law, and Criminal Litigation were the specialized areas oflaw which made up 50% of his two day board certification examinations. Additionally, Duane Lavely was certified by the state of Texas to teach an associates degree level course on "Interview & Investigation" based on his experience conducting private investigations. Utilizing "people skills"honed through the conducting of interviews, he attempted to transfer his knowledge to his students. His vast experience has allowed him to testiffy as an expert witness on several occasions. Duane's excellent research and writing skills are demonstrated by his latest brief filed with the Idaho Industrial Commission regarding "unemployment benefit eligibility". Based on his briefand the appeal hearing transcript, the Opinion of the Industrial Commission reversed the findings of the Appeals Examiner. Prior to entering the legal field, Duane Lavely owned an automotive machine and restoration shop where he machined and fabricated parts for everything from al 908 White stearn engine to Indianapolis 500 cars. Advanced electronics (avionics) training was received through the USAF where he was a weapons control systems technician on F-4 fighter jets. Sales and marketing experience was obtained through brokering exotic and collector cars, retail sales, and more recently building and marketing Walk on the Wild Side Bed & Breakfast in Garden Valley, Idaho. In 2001, Duane left Walk on the Wild Side B&B and training in Reno, Nevada for his present position as a driver for Greyhound Lines, Inc. |

Duane Lavely has been active in the community since moving to Boise County. He has been active in the Greater Garden Valley Chamber of Commerce where he proposed and directed the first "Charles Dickens Christmas Festival", and attends and supports many area events and civic meetings. He has created this website so that Boise County voters can be better informed as to his positions on various issues confronting the community before the May 28th, 2002 Republican Primary.
